THE STONE ROSES
Red man for Roses

THE STONE ROSES' began rehearsing this week for their forthcoming festival appearance in Spain and at Reading with their new guitarist. As NME went to press, the name of the new member could not be confirmed, though it is widely believed to be ex-Simply Red guitarist Sylvan Richardson, who played on the band's first two albums 'Picture Book' and 'Men And Women', though he left shortly after. According to one insider Sylvan is an accomplished jazz player and a mate of Robbie Maddix, who has been working as a session man around Manchester.

The Roses will make their post-John Squire live debut on August 2 at the Benicassum festival near Madrid in Spain before headlining the last night at Reading on August 25. The band have no plans to record or release any new material this year, though there is some speculation that the band's direction will be far more dance oriented.
