Elephant Stone, cover image for the Silvertone debut 12" (of the same name) 'Elephant Stone' (October 1988).

"A favourite, I can see two superheroes in the middle, a red one and a blue one. Totally accidental. It's only a little bigger than a 12". Most of my paintings are the size of a small carpet. People ask me when I'm going to exhibit. The stock answer is they're all on show in HMV." (Speaking to Select Magazine Nov 97)

ADDITIONAL USE

Both John's guitar and Ian's shirt where 'pollocked' out in Elephant Stone-style artwork, shown in the Music Box video, which also featured the Untitled 3 piece as the backdrop to the set and the band suitably performed 'Elephant Stone'.

That guitar can also be seen in the background on their Other Side of Midnight performance.

Mani's bass was also later 'pollocked' with a similar design to the Elephant Stone artwork as seen below on the band's infamous appearance on the Late Show (performing 'Made Of Stone') and on the Hits Studio International (performing 'One Love').

STUDY

jackson pollock, convergence, number 10, 1952, oil and enamel on canvas, 7' 9.5" x 12' 11"

I feel there are some striking similarities between John's 'Elephant Stone' piece and this piece by Pollock. John uses very similar colours to the Pollock piece and while the black plays a greater part in 'Convergence', I feel John pours the blue into the white in a similiar manner. The below picture (which is a print of the Pollock piece, detailed and rotated 90 degrees) shows the closeness to the 'Elephant Stone' piece even more.
