Press Release
Release Date: Limited Release 13th September, Full Release 1st Novemeber 2004

Compilation featuring 10 of the City's new guard covering 10 of the City's classics. The album, with artwork by John Squire, is to be released on September 13th ready for Manchester's 'In The City' music conference. The bands will be showcased by a majoy driving force behind the new scene that is 'Blowout' with free entry for ITC delegates.

The album will be released by Manchester Independent Label Concrete Recordings on CD and a limited 500 individually number 12" vinyl pressings. The front cover artwork has been supplied by the legendary John Squire, good friend of the album's creator and renowned Roses tour manager, Mr. Steve 'Adj' Atherton. The compilation portrays the diversity of music that has emerged from the City, ranging from The Smiths to the Bee Gees, from the Hollies to the Happy Mondays, from Joy Division to 10cc...

The City of late has been dormant. Acts have been hanging in the post-industrial shadows, waiting for a spark to help them emerge from the underground and into the minds of the masses. 'Adj' approached Spirit Studios, a name synonymous with the city's illustrious past, with the 10 from 10 idea, which the studio embraced and agreed to record the tracks FOC in studio downtime. Finding talent to fill the album did not prove difficult.

The new wave filling the city's venues soon heard about the release and with enthusiasm they're filling the live stages with, were straight in the studio with the Spirit Producer Engineer and Band Manager team, Stuart Lawler, Palli Kristjansson and Mike Ball. The album was soon filled with names that are already starting to catch the media eye.

Blood Red Bird - "ones to watch" Fly Magazine.
Escape Pod - "the most beautifully crafted and inventive pop tunes" BBC Online.
The Obsession - "part Baptist evangelism and part nervous breakdown" NME.
Pioneers - "Accomplished, grand, joyous and surely designed for bigger stages." City Life Magazine.
Earl - "Dirty as a downbeat disco dog and surfing the electro wave with genuine quality, Earl are punked up funk or funked up punk..." BBC Manchester.
Hanky Park - "Hanky Park trade in classic pop for the true believers: think catchy melodies and chiming guitars" Manchester Online.
Tricky Nixon - "classic angst that will have anyone bar the tone deaf singing by the 2nd chorus. Epic, ambitious and accessible, it would be a new Nixon scandal if they fail." Planetsound, Channel 4.
Sam Hammond - "If this was released in the 70's, and Sam was dead everyone would own this record."

The release will be available from outlets as listed on www.concreterecordings.co.uk. The Blowout showcase will take place at the Bierkeller, 77 Piccadilly, Manchester on 20/9/04 when the city is in the grip of ITC fever.

Mutated, diverse and glorious, this compilation showcases the new blood kicking in Manchester's veins. Get ready... the north shall rise again...
