Hirst art boosts War Child sale
Two postcard-sized paintings by Damien Hirst have sold for £2,000 each at an auction in aid of charity War Child.
The Turner Prize winner created the 'spin art' works for a 1995 art event hosted by the charity which helps children affected by global conflict.
Original artwork by former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire, used on the cover of War Child's recent benefit album, fetched £6,000.
The sale at the Proud Gallery in London made a total of £15,000.
Work by two members of indie band Maximo Park, and photographs of bands recording their tracks for War Child's benefit album in September this year, also went under the hammer.
Coldplay, Radiohead and Gorillaz were among acts who recorded 22 exclusive tracks for Help: A Day in the Life, which organisers said became the fastest-selling download album.
The recordings were organised 10 years after the original Help album, which saw the likes of Oasis, Blur and Suede record tracks in a single day.
