Roses - Squire Eyeing Glasto
THE Stone Roses are reforming - and John Squire wants them to play Glastonbury.
Legendary axeman Squire, 42, has revealed his vision for their future.
He said: "The plan is to make a ferocious guitar record on my own. And then put the Roses back together."
Squire, who with singer Ian Brown was the driving force behind them, quit in 1996 after their second and final album got a poor reception.
He went on to form The Seahorses and released a solo album last year to modest acclaim.
Former frontman Brown, 42, however has gone from strength to strength, establishing himself as a solo artist.
Bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield joined Primal Scream while drummer Alan 'Reni' Wren has kept a low profile.
Brown and Squire haven't spoken for nearly a decade, but Squire is keen to build bridges with his childhood pal.
Bumper
Asked about the spare slot at Glastonbury, Squire suggested that he'd like to fill it with The Roses.
He told London listings mag Time Out: "Kylie's had to pull out, hasn't she? Maybe we should do it."
Earlier this week Noel Gallagher made it clear there'd be a reunion soon.
He said: "They've got unfinished business, and they'd have to do new tunes, but they'd be idiots if they didn't.
"Mani would at the drop of a hat. Ian and John have got issues, but they can be worked out."
The lads could look forward to a bumper pay day.
New material would be profitable, but the lads could make a killing live.
I for one would certainly be at the front of the queue to see the classic line-up perform tracks like I Wanna Be Adored, I Am The Resurrection and Fools Gold.
What The World's Been Waiting For? Indeed.
