Roses resurrection rumours grow

RUMOURS of a Stone Roses reunion have been rife for the last few weeks, particularly since Mani made a guest appearance at Ian Brown's Blackpool show.

But the gossip reached fever pitch today when a gig review of a supposed Stone Roses reunion gig in Manchester appeared on several internet sites.

The review, credited to Rob Johnson, claimed the Roses played a set of their classic singles at Manchester Town Hall last night for a special Granada TV programme about the band.

Johnson wrote: "the opening I Wanna Be Adored rings out like a pantomime anthem from the terraces. But hold on.

"Just as you pause to reflect how thoroughly British it all is along comes the eight minute psych-funk spectacular Fools Gold, meandering along on what are quintessential American influences; a guitar sound 'borrowed' from the depth of Electric Ladyland via Issac Hayes' Theme From Shaft which ushers in a succession of smouldering wah-wah firestorms that continue through Waterfal" and Made Of Stone finding their conclusion in I Am The Resurrection."

However, ManchesterOnline can confirm that the Town Hall reunion gig was in fact an elaborate April Fools Day story.

Another rumour - that Reni, Mani and John Squire spent yesterday evening together watching the Love gig at Manchester Academy - is also doing the rounds on the internet.

And with the twentieth anniversary of the band's debut single, So Young, almost upon us, the rumour mill looks set to continue.
