BEHIND THE VIDEO

Ian Brown
'All Ablaze'

Fiction

Talking to video director Colin O'Toole

"The idea was simple. With 'The Greatest' coming out, we wanted to focus on Ian's face. Since he went solo, Ian has become more iconic.

The ring of fire throughout was my idea. When I was a kid, the imagery of the Catholic Church was simple and water and fire are very much part of it. But the song is really anti-organised religion. It was inspired by a trip Ian had to the Vatican. He saw an image of Jesus whose face was that of the illegitimate son of an ancient pope.

The part where he burns a picture of himself from the Roses days is also playing on the idea of renewal.

There are only a handful of people with the right sort of iconic face and image to be able to pull off a video likfe this and Ian's is one of them."
