X-clusive: Kylie's Glasto Headline Replacement Revealed
Speaking to Xfm, Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has revealed which bands will be replacing Kylie in the headlining slot on the Sunday night of the festival and puts those Stone Roses reformation rumours to rest for once and for all.
Since Kylie's withdrawal from the event, the rumour mills have gone into overdrive with stories of which act will fill the coveted final night headlining slot. The Killers were reportedly offered it, but turned it down and The Cure seemed narked that they weren't even asked.
"So I asked three headliners that could've headlined the Sunday night, but in the end all of them said they couldn't for various reasons," Eavis explained to Xfm, "And you can't blame them, it was Kylie's slot, and maybe they wondered why I hadn't asked them in the first place! [laughs]"
However, we can now exclusively reveal who will be stepping up to the Pyramid Stage on Sunday June 26 at Worthy Farm, Pilton.
"We've moved Basement Jaxx up to the top and we've got Primal Scream doing their Greatest Hits set in penultimate place," Eavis confirmed, "They're a favourite band of mine, so it's a bit of an indulgence I have to say.
"I think it'll be great fun. I'm really looking forward to it".
As for the constant stream of rumours that The Stone Roses would be reforming, Eavis explained that he tried his best to make it happen,
"I spoke to Ian [Brown - Roses singer] about that, in fact he called up actually," he explained, "I asked him 'What are the chances of getting John on board and getting everyone back together? Mani and everyone.' And he said 'Not really'. I said that I thought the rest of the band were really keen, and he said, 'Yeah, but I haven't spoken to John for nine years and to suddenly get back onstage together and start playing, its not going to happen'.
"I tried really hard, and tried to make that happen."
However, it does appear that former Stone Roses bassist Mani will have his work cut out for him on the final night of the festival.
"Well, Mani will be playing first with The Primals on the Main Stage on Sunday night," Eavis laughed, "Then he'll be flying over The Other Stage for Ian Brown's closing headlining set [Mani has been appearing live with his former singer on occasion recently]. He's gonna be busy running like blazes between stages."
The Glastonbury Festival will take place from June 24, 25 and 26 at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Shepton Mallet in Somerset.
