X-clusive: Mani 'Not Playing Glasto With Brown'

Ex-Stone Roses bass player Mani has spoken exclusively to Xfm Online and confirmed, despite rumours, he won't be playing with Ian Brown at Glastonbury. However, he did spill the beans on Primal Scream's Glasto set and spoke about the fateful year they were forced to pull out.

Rumours had been circulating for weeks that Mani would be playing two sets on the Sunday night at Glastonbury 2005 starting on the Pyramid Stage with the Scream before legging it over to the Other Stage to join former bandmate Ian Brown. Not so it would appear…

"Ian ain't asked me to play," he laughed. "I don't know where that came from. Another of those delicious Stone Roses rumours. D'you know what, I've started taking the mickey out of people and telling them any old crap.

"I've got my work cut out with Primal Scream making the new record and that's where I'm at right now. It's beginning to sound great and we start recording properly on Monday. We're gonna record right up to the Sunday morning (June 26) and then chopper into Glastonbury, do the show, then get the hell out of there and get back into the studio.

"We'll be playing a lot of the singles," he divulged, "Just our best rock 'n' roll tunes, really, to get the crowd buzzing. That's what we're setting out to do and that's what we will do. We're not gonna let anyone down - it's gonna be electrifying."

Mani also spoke about being forced to pull out of their Glastonbury headline performance in 1995 and the effect it would have had on the Stone Roses' careers.

It was such a time where that would have absolutely nailed it," he explained. "We'd have been enormous, but Mr. Squire fell off his bike in San Francisco. But the guys from Pulp, you'll never hear them complaining, because they got the slot and went on to bigger and better things. It was the making of them, so good luck to Jarvis and the boys [sic] for grabbing the opportunity and seizing the day."

Mani plays the penultimate slot on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2005 with Primal Scream.
