between '87-'91
it's just there are loads of interviews with him saying he's always been a wearer and fan of the brand but all the older photo's i've seen he's never wearing any adi gear, anyone? |

i can't recall any i'm afraid.
Although sportswear was huge back then it was all Tachini, lacoste , fila etc.
Adidas was seen as a poor mans sports brand apart from trainers.
Adidas key west trainers all smelled of cats piss and were recalled - fact! - something to do with the glue reacting with sweat.  |

I had a pair of adidas Trimm Trabb around '84 and I thought our cat had pissed in them the smell was so bad.
That's that mystery solved!

I heard of the cat-piss smell story!
Yes, I remember the brands that were considered cool in those days and Adidas was definitely seen as second class.
I had a look through my photo archive, but didn't see any photo of Ian wearing anything with the Adidas logo.
The only picture I found was one of him wearing an Adidas sweatshirt, but that was much later, when he had gone solo already.

IIRC Ian started using Adidas in 1998 when he made a deal with them.
