HMV Review

September 2002

After selling half a million copies of their UK debut The Seahorses disbanded. John took stock of where he wanted to be musically and began recording in his home studio with producer Simon Dawson, with whom he had worked on The Stone Roses' 'The Second Coming'. Working together with a talented set of musicians featuring Andy Treacey (Faithless) on drums, Jonathan White (Groove Armada) on bass and John Ellis on keyboards, John took on lead vocals as well as guitar for the first time (keen Stone Roses fans will remember that John previously sang on 'Tightrope' on 'The Second Coming' album). 'Time Changes Everything' is arguably amongst John's finest work, opening with the blistering 'Joe Louis' (also the first single), and including stand out tracks such as as 'Shine A Little Light', the Dylan-esque title song, 'Time Changes Everything', the Stone Roses-referencing '15 Days' and the gentle closing track, 'Sophia'.
