Ian Brown Composes Election Anthem

Ian Brown has written a brand new song about the upcoming UK general election. And Xfm has the complete lyrics for the track, entitled ‘Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea’, right here.

The lyrics for the song first appeared in this morning’s Guardian newspaper (May 3) and, rather than champion any one specific political party, presents the opinion that Labour, the Tories and the Liberal Democrats are all as bad as each other.

Furthermore, the chorus of the track, paints politicians as somewhat power crazed, with Brown singing, “Soapbox speakin’, power seekin’, gonna light the nation in its, darkest hour, craving the keys to the reins, of power…”

Quite what kind of reins require keys is as yet unclear, though some have hypothesised that Mr Brown may be in possession of some kind of mechanical horse. Or maybe the reins of power are kept in a cupboard.

In other Ian Brown news, the former Stone Roses singer has just been confirmed for a special one off gig at the Bristol Academy on July 6. Tickets for the event are on sale now.

As previously reported, Brown has been confirmed as headline act for The Eden Sessions 2005 on August 27. All profits from the night will be donated to Manchester Aid to Kosovo (MaK) the Manchester-based charity to aid Kosovo.

The full lyrics to ‘Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea’ are as follows.

Vote for me, vote for me
I’m the politician with the
Policies to set you free
Time for an election
So what’s your selection?
Caught between the devil and the deep blue sea

Chorus:

Soapbox speakin’, power seekin’
Gonna light the nation in its
Darkest hour
Craving the keys to the reins
Of power

Love me, trust me, cast me
Your vote
X marks the spot
Let me be the first past the post

Don’t vote for me and ya
Can’t complain
Let me be a law-maker
In the game where a dreamer
Can become a shaker

Chorus:

Soapbox speakin’, power seekin’
Gonna light the nation in its
Darkest hour
Craving the keys to the reins
Of power

Lookin’ for a vision?
Can’t make a decision?
Caught between the devil and
the deep blue sea

Filled with derision?
Caught between the devil and
the deep blue sea

Re – count! Re-count!
Who spoilt the papers?
Say nobody vote for no one
No others, no Tory or Labour
Just got left with 30m spoilt
Ballot papers

Chorus:

Soapbox speakin’, power seekin’
Gonna light the nation in its
Darkest hour
Craving the keys to the reins
Of power
