26th October 2005 Thanks to all that have signed the John Squire petition so far, we've just passed the 100 mark, which I'm happy with... it'd be great to have some more, if you've yet to sign up, feel free to read up on it whilst listening to the sublime Fools Gold as performed by John Squire at the Fuji Festival (2003), you can find that here, or you can go straight to the petition.

25th October 2005 The 88s have set up a myspace.com page where you can listen to both new tracks 'Longtime' and 'Stars'. Visit their myspace.com page or the88s.co.uk to visit their official site. 20th October 2005 Cheapest source found for the re-issue 'Sally Cinnamon' package, released 31st October. HMV.co.uk are currently offering it for £5.99 (which is the cheapest I have seen it so far) and at the moment they are offering free postage on everything, so that's all you'll pay, I doubt you'll find it cheaper online.

18th October 2005 A reminder that voting is now open for the www.festivalawards.com festival awards. 18th October 2005 I'd like to introduce you to The 88s, some of you more regular regulars might have heard me talk about them already. They've been together a while now, the frontman is David McKellar was also the lead vocalist in the short-lived The Rising with Paul Banks (ex-Shed Seven, ex-Yards) on guitar, Stu Fletcher (ex-Seahorses, currently on the books with The Yards and The Dukes) on bass and Maxi (currently with Ian Brown) on drums; although they put together at least 2 EPs of really strong tunes, these remain largely unheard.

The 88s have got a new 2 track CD available from their website which features the brand new, high-energy tune 'Longtime' (which you can listen to online) and is backed with the persuasively catchy 'Stars'. They are also playing O'Henrys in Glasgow on the 29th October and The Barfly (also in Glasgow) on the 12th November, so anyone in the Glasgow area, should definitely go along for a listen. Thanks go out to David for sending me the CD and a couple of work in progress which are promising to be another couple of quality tunes.

13th October 2005 Following on from some conversations on the JSU forums, we've decided that we'd love John Squire to return to us with his 'Ferocious Guitar' 3rd solo album with the B-side off the first single to be a bang-up studio version of 'Fools Gold'. So, just for a laugh and to see how far it gets (never done one before), I've see up an online petition for you to sign if you want to participate. I've set up a page with all the info and the John Squire Fools Gold live at the Fuji Festival 2003 (which inspired the whole thing), which you can find here, or you can go straight to the petition.

To follow this up I'm going to try and get as many people involved as I can and have created a signature banner for you to use on forums, etc (found on the info page) and I will be emailing other webmasters and posting the info on other boards and will contact John's people to let them know our intentions. At the end of the day, it's just intended to be a harmless bit of fun, but let's see how far it goes!

11th October 2005 According to the Official Ian Brown site, Ian has been short-listed for the UK Festival Awards 2005 in the category of: 'Festival Feel Good' award. Shortly after voting closes on Monday 7 November, the winners will be announced and presented with their trophies.
