Re: Ian Brown response to opening up to the Rolling Stones

Around that time (1990) IB also called David Bowie 'crap' and 'a chancer'. Some of his bravado was amusing back then, but saying that about Bowie was taking the piss... Aside from all the obvious classics (Ziggy, Hunky Dory, Low, Heroes, Aladdin Sane etc) the great man even recorded an album as he ...

Ian Brown response to opening up to the Rolling Stones

There was a time for three of four years when the Stones were red hot. They looked good, sounded good and meant what they were playing. Now they’re nothing but a money machine. Sad really. Ian Brown (1989) Ironically, thirty years later, the same can be said of the Roses. What goes around comes aro...

Re: Where Angels Play/Something's Burning/Standing Here

Believe it or not, it was Sally Cinnamon, and the B-Sides that made me get initially into the roses. 1. Standing Here 2 Where Angles Play 3. Going Down 4. Mersey Paradise. 5. All Across the Sands. These songs could and should have been put on an separate album along with fillers (WTWIF, hardest thin...

Re: Standing Here

I got the now rare 'Standing Here' T-Shirt from Eastern Bloc Records in 89. Looked like the later 'Adored' single, but with 'Standing Here' printed on the shirt instead. All the staff I knew at EB said 'Standing Here' should have been an A-Side, and they were right. Some go on about 'Ten Storey Lov...

Re: Standing Here

Not to mention the beautiful bassline played by Mani. IMO, it is one of their best basslines (lot of subtle grace notes). Listening the individual tracks. It reminds me of how much detail and attention they put into the songs. When they were once a band other than separate egos.

Standing Here

I have noticed from the Top ten Roses songs polls that Standing Here was on a lot of people’s Top ten, which reminds me of how breathtaking this song is. I had put this song at my number one spot as this song is really an incredible fusion of the brilliant individual tracks along with the most breat...
