I guess it's not surprising to find someone on a Stone Roses forum saying this but...

Personally I never got into the Beatles anywhere near as much as I did the Roses. I'm slightly too young to remember the Roses' brief heyday, and I like LPs like Rubber Soul and Revolver, they're great, but for some reason they are not part of me like the Roses' debut LP and those classic singles. I guess it's just different strokes for different folks.

I got into The Beatles around the same time as getting into the Roses (early '89 when I was 14) so both bands mean a lot to me.

I bought The Beatles Oldies But Goldies on cassette then sought out my Dad's Beatles vinyl. Just looking through the album sleeves at that age was a staggering experience. They didn't make sense. How could the four smiling mop tops on the cover of Please Please Me be the same band that appeared on the cover of Sgt Peppers? It just seemed crazy that it was the same band just 4 years later. It was such a thrill to discover The Beatles albums for the first time then discovering the b-sides and understanding the chronology of the releases and the gaps inbetween. No other band has come close to the buzz that I felt discovering everything about The Beatles. The Roses were different because they were my band from my generation.
