Ian Brown response to opening up to the Rolling Stones

There was a time for three of four years when the Stones were red hot. They looked good, sounded good and meant what they were playing. Now they’re nothing but a money machine. Sad really.

Ian Brown (1989)

Ironically, thirty years later, the same can be said of the Roses. What goes around comes around.

The Stones never asked the Roses to support them on the Steel Wheels/ Urban Jungle tour in 89/90.
It was a stunt instigated by Gareth Evans, which Brown and Co played up to iike idiots...

I went to the Stones show at Maine Road in 1990 on the Friday, and I then saw Inspiral Carpets at G-Mex the following night. Great gigs and great days. :D

Around that time (1990) IB also called David Bowie 'crap' and 'a chancer'. Some of his bravado was amusing back then, but saying that about Bowie was taking the piss... Aside from all the obvious classics (Ziggy, Hunky Dory, Low, Heroes, Aladdin Sane etc) the great man even recorded an album as he was dying. While that lot have released two one sided singles in five years.... :?

Back in they day, they could say almost anything they want, and would be considered part of the overall attitude of the band. They really began losing massive respect after second coming was released. Remember half the time, they ended up trying to defend themselves rather than having the luxury of disparaging others. Looking back, I wish they had called it a day after glasgow green in 1990 while the band was still untarnished. Its been downhill ever since.

I agree, but you have to remember that in 1990 Bowie was in the midst of his Tin Machine phase and was looking more than a little bit washed up. I miss the days of rock stars being outspoken and iconoclastic anyway, nowadays everyone is so fucking respectful.

IB also added that 'apart from a couple of bits off 'Low', Bowie's entire output was shit. Which is total bollocks, of course... At times he made Liam Gallagher look reasonable.
