Brown's vocals sound angelic.

I've thought for a while that it would be interesting to strip away all of the electric guitars on Elephant Stone to hear something closer to the sound they had on Sally Cinnamon or All across the sands. I think the youtube clip is as close as I'm gonna get.

That is just beautiful! Thank you so much for posting.

I agree that Ian sounds like an angel. His ability/inability to carry a tune will forever be an enigma to me. But when he is “on,” there is no other voice I prefer to hear.

Superb stuff... Many thanks... ;)

It makes me want to tear my hair out that they've thrown it away for a second time. :(

That makes for painful reading from a guy who like to give the impression that he is loosely in the know.

"So why did they split?"

"Coz of disagreements/arguments over the setlist".

What a total and utter di@K.

It sounds lovely ... but that's because it's a lovely song. Like many people I prefer Ian's gentler style, but he obviously didn't, and it probably wouldn't have held up as he aged anyway. But even within that style, I mean, he's barely holding on to some of the notes there. His voice has a great sound, and I wouldn't trade him for anyone on the records ... but he's just not good at holding a tune.

The most interesting thing in that Reni rehearsal tape is how well-spoken they are - especially Brown. The time before being a professional Manc was a thing.

"The better a singer's voice, the harder it is to believe what they're saying” David Byrne (via Hooky's New Order book).

Not sure that's always true, but... yeah.
