They wanted to be adored.
They got their wish.
.

In ‘80s Britain, ambition was an ugly word in the indie-rock lexicon. However, The Stone Roses wanted to be the world’s biggest band. “The past was yours but the future’s mine,” sang Ian Brown with a swagger on She Bangs The Drums , and with their debut’s fusion of ‘60s psychedelia, ‘70s funk and ‘80s acid house beats it looked, briefly, as if they might realise that dream. That the quartet subsequently “George Best-ed it” detracts nothing from their debut’s cultural importance.

What you said: ”Best debut ever! They saved British guitar rock.” Mike Richmond, Huddersfield.
